Foster An Animal

What is the Heal Foster Care Program?

The foster program is a lifesaving extension of Heal Animal Rescue. Foster parents provide temporary homes for animals that aren’t quite ready for adoption and is a personal and gratifying way to contribute to saving the life of a homeless animal. We have a number of wonderful, dedicated foster families who work with us, but we are always in need of more.

**Our foster care program is currently under construction! Stay tuned for moe updates coming soon! Currently we are only accepting foster applications for Dominic.

How Long Will I be Fostering an Animal?

The time required to foster varies depending on the species and the reason for foster; it can be as little as one week or as long as several months depending on the needs of the particular animal. Our foster coordinators will work with you to make sure we match you with an animal that is right for your lifestyle and schedule.

What are the Responsibilities of a Foster Home?

Taking care of a foster animal involves feeding, cleaning, grooming, socializing and generally providing a lot of love and TLC. Because some rescued animals are sick, stressed, or frightened, they may require additional care. Animals with medical conditions may require trips to the vet and administering medication. Small kittens, puppies and bunnies may require bottle feeding and a few trips to the shelter to receive vaccinations. A frightened animal may require extra weeks of attention and socialization to become ready for adoption.

Which Animals Need Fostering?

Animals are fostered for a variety of reasons. Foster families provide the love and stability these animals need to be happy and healthy. When an animal has been in a foster home, it is more confident and social and is likely to get adopted more quickly.

In general, the types of animal who need foster care are:

  • Orphaned kittens or puppies

  • Pregnant moms

  • Moms with babies

  • Adult dogs or cats in need of socialization

  • Dogs or cats being treated for or recuperating from medical conditions

What about Expenses?

Heal Animal Rescue will cover the cost of veterinary care and medicine, food and supplies.
